i only use the clutch in my 52 when starting out, otherwise all shifting up or down is without clutch, very rarely do i miss a gear, in fact down shifting is easier then up shifting, i guess its after 45 years of driving the beast! so far never replaced the clutch and no chipped gear teeth! I drove my 67 W200 over 300,000 miles, same way, taught my nephew and hes had it for years now, never replaced the clutch! trans shifts like a dream! i drove over the road in big rigs, same way...just dont be in a hurry
