Years ago my new son-in-law got me to help him move. He rented a diesel truck for a discount since the previous renter had not topped off the tank when returned.
Just before he picked me up he filled half the tank+ with gasoline. By the time he made the short distance to his apartment, it was starting to cough and gag. I got in and began to ask questions. We had to travel about 10 miles down an Atlanta interstate with the thing bucking and jumping, belching out a pillar of black smoke. Car after car passed us, rolling down windows with insults and salutes. We finally dropped the furniture and I purchased two five gallon fuel cans so we could hopefully drain most of it out.
When we barely got it cranked the last time and got to a station, I yelled don't switch it off while I pumped in the diesel.
I swear I could hear that poor old engine say "thank you" as its throat cleared !
