I still store mine on wood do to temperature differences between concrete and ambient air, and I still use acid/lead batteries. I've stored fully charged batteries this way for several years at a time with plenty of juice to start a vehicle when installed. I guess I'll continue. I also use a piece of rubber inner tube several inches up the sides of the battery when installed in the box to keep any acid from spreading from leaks/evaporation.
