I have owned a few Unimogs and currently have a U1300L with a turbocharged 6 cylinder diesel, I think its the greates Unimog I have ever driven. The OLD underpowered Gasser these folks are referring to is a 404 it was built ONLY for the Swiss Army, they wanted a Gas engine its also the ONLY Unimog ever built with a gas engine, the 404 had 88 HP and they made up for the rest with gearing and yes it was slow. I dont know what your budget is but there are many models of Unimogs and they are not at all like the 404 of the past! I collect Military trucks mostly "M" series larger US trucks Deuce and bigger. What I have found in my workings with many collectors of US military trucks is the MOGS get put down and the only reason I have been able to find is that people dont understand the concept behind them and they dont want to admit that there are BETTER ideas out there and trust me when I say the Unimogs are a much better idea! The person you need to talk with is named George Bull and he owns the Unimog Center on the East Coast, they are online also. George is 100% straight shooter he is honest and he is willing to sit down with you and discuss what your needs and wants are. I own a few trucks everything from an M920 MET to an M977 HEMTT and my Unimog is still always my GO TO truck!! Good luck!
