Yes you can and many people do it. Unfortunately, you can never change the GVWR which is the legal rating. Yes you can add springs, air bags, sway bars and etc to improve its ride and its ability to handle weight better, but the legal rating of the truck is what Dodge gave it at the factory. Period no questions.

The real issue is in the legal realm. If, someone modified the truck so it could effectively handle larger loads. If they loaded it up to 10,000lbs and went down the road and had an accident that’s where the problems start. Their insurance may not cover it as they exceeded the GVWR. Additionally, their may be charges of negligence for being overloaded.

Simple example, this truck is loaded to 10K and they lightly rear end someone at a stoplight. Whoops, lawyer sees truck is overloaded therefore it couldn’t stop because of that and the driver is negligent because he “knowingly overloaded it.

Do I agree with this, it doesn’t matter as that is how people use the legal system that we have.
