My 96 B3500 van has 89,000 miles on it so far, I have that tranny your talking about. I change and adjust the bands every 30,000 and have had no real trouble yet. When My brother worked for the border patrol they had dodge vans and he says they needed trannys at about 70,000 miles. aparently the overdrive doesn't get enough fluid? Direct connection has a kit you install and you drill out a few passages in the valve body. I once had a problem with the transmission getting confused, I was driving like a jerk. I was in a subdivision when I overshot a street, I stood on the brakes, stuck it in reverse and went about 25mph backwards, then stood on the brakes and stuck it in drive. after that it would downshift as soon as you let up on the gas. after shutting the truck off and restarting it cleared the confused sensor.
