I hear you on the liability issue.

Most trucks with campers are over GVWR. Most 1 ton single rear tire pickups towing a 26’ 5 wheel are over GVWR weight. I was having a text discussion with a friend and another friend was on the thread. He has an F350 and tows a 26’ 5 wheel. He was apparently watching the conversation in which I stated it’s not a matter of if the truck can tow it but if Igor exceed the GVWR which is a legal weight. A little bit later the guy sends me scale weights loaded and unloaded. He did net exceed any axle ratings nor gross combination vehicle rating. However, he is 1,100 lbs over GVWR. He has been towing for 3 years with no problems. However, he now understands the legal ratings and what may happen if he is in an accident even if he is not at fault. It finally clicked that even if someone pulled out in front of him and it was not his fault, that person’s lawyer could claim that if he hadn’t been 1100lbs over weight he would have been able to stop and avoided accident. He understood that he could be found negligent because he had over loaded his truck. He said he is going to have to reduce weight.

Thank you lawyers.
