Keep in mind that the heat riser is not just a winter thing. I change mine from winter to summer and back with the change of seasons. However, I have had the position set to "summer" during the summer season only to have carburetor icing when the weather is just right. This happens occasionally in the dead of summer on those very humid, slightly cool (maybe 70 degrees), mornings. It is something I can cure without setting the heat riser to the winter position if I am willing to keep starting it back up after it dies and eventually the engine compartment will become warm enough to melt the ice on the carb. It just takes some time and patience.
