Yes you are correct Jerry
The soil is gumbo clay, very cohesive causing issues if the builder doesn't dig the beams deep enough or using proper re-bar/ cables
The underside of the slab looks like a waffle about 4" with 2-3' beams about every 8-10 feet for strength
Some run copper coil inside a plastic sleeve in slab to stub-outs in walls for water supply
