Yes, same. At the shipyard the medium of choice was Asbestos. I used to love that stuff. Asbestos blankets...Cozy & warm...make a good blanky to keep you warm on cold nights :)
I always remember...I mean every tug, ship, engine room we had had that stuff installed. I remember one of our tugs we were refitting it & so the asbestos had to go. I remember we had this guy removing it & he had a tent built around the boat/dock with a shower set up.
I walked down the dock to see what the heck was going on. The guy was a character...75ish. I said...”what you doing...building a house?”
He laughed & said, “it’s all for looks!” If WCB shows up & sees me without this crap we’ll all get lynched!
He goes on to tell me he installed the asbestos in this boat & now 50 years later he’s taking it out.
I said have you had any issues of mesothelioma?
He says, “naw...that’s a load of crap...I eat this stuff for breakfast!”
How am I to respond to that? Lol. He’s been installing it as long as I’ve been alive & now he’s removing it & it doesn’t look like many safety precautions are being taken :)
