One of the problems with trying to get paint off...if it was really poor paint, you may have success with mild thinners or sanding however if good paint was installed, the thinners in the paint bite into the original paint & in order to get it off you’d end up sanding to metal.

On more than one occasion I’ve tried removing the fire departments door logos & ive tried everything from thinners to wet sanding. It doesn’t work. You’ll end up sanding to metal sadly.
Hopefully he’s got spray can paint. If so, that junk comes off with mild thinners.
