I know what that is. We had a freezing rain one time on bare roads. It was so smooth and thick enough that I put on my ice skates and skated all over the neighborhood. It was kind of a kick to skate down the steep hill on my street.

When we lived in Alaska, we drove 6 months of the year on snow and ice. It wasn’t an issue except for the first snow until people remembered to slow down and drive like it’s winter. You do learn to drive in those conditions.

The most interesting ride I ever had was on an ice road over the Arctic Ocean. They built them about 10 lanes wide by pumping sea water onto the ice to thicken the ice. The guy who was driving, was crazy. I looked up at the speedometer to see that we were doing 100 mph. The only reason I looked was we had just gone through a slight curve and it took all ten lanes to navigate it. The following week he learned a life lesson. He was driving close to 100 again. Well he came upon a place where the road had shifted 4’ vertically. Lucky for him he went off the high side onto the low side. After that he slowed down to a max of 35 as he knew he would have been dead if he had been going the other way. Interesting how youthful invincibility can suddenly go away.
