To be honest, I’ve owned a ton of power wagons & really the only two reasons I’ve ever needed to find TDC is when installing a timing chain...(pretty straight forward when the timing cover is off) and the only other use for TDC is in checking that the distributor has been installed correctly & the ignition wires properly located. I never use a timing light. I can time my engine by ear within seconds & timing lights I actually find are more problematic than anything else with different fuel octanes, timing chain wear & even cases like this where pointers are damaged, bent or missing. If your timing is too far advanced, your engine will ping on hills...if it’s retarded it will lack power. That’s pretty much the best timing method I know ...and you don’t need a pointer!
