My '54 (6 volt /230) FF, after having sat idle for about a year or so due to health problems in the family won't start. Essentially it isn't generating spark. I've tried the following without success:
New 6volt battery installed, positive terminal cabled to vehicle and negative terminal cabled to the starter.
New points installed and gapped.
New rotor button installed.
New coil installed. (Several coils tried)
New distributor cap installed.
New plugs gapped and installed.
New plug wires installed.
All fuses checked.
Dash gauges have stopped working. They used to activate with turn of the key. I've tested the wire to the ignition key switch and it is hot. I've also tried bypassing the ignition key start in the event that the switch was bad. But still, no spark to the spark plugs.
I've also drained/cleaned the fuel tank and added new fuel and an electric fuel pump as well as a fuel pressure regulator. I realize this has nothing to do with spark, but didn't want to run old fuel through the truck when I thought it would start.
I've had a local mechanic come to the house who spent several hours trying to trouble shoot the no-spark condition without success. As I eluded to in the opening message, he suggested I find an old school mechanic who was more accustomed to working on flatheads and other non-computerized engines.
