That is why. I use wood as my sole source of heat. When I first got the homeplace I bought the boiler with intensions of redoing the house as it had no insulation. House was always cold for my grandparents and high heat bills. First year I burnt 30 cord of wood and the house was still nippy at times. I've averaged 13 cord now for 17 years now.
When I did the spray foam it was on the one part I did not insulate(under 2 rooms that had a crawl space) The rest has a basement. They put a vapor barrier down on the ground, then sprayed the foam on the rock foundation walls. I have 10 inches of batts on the first floor and 8 inches on the second. 10 - 16 inches blown in the ceiling. Weird that we get way colder than BC.
