Under the Military Specifications for the M601/M615 (MIL-T-46757A(MO), section 3.8.1 Engine., it states in part "Engine shall be manufacturer's current, internal combustion, four-stroke cycle gasoline engine ....." In 1958, Dodge may have used the 230 engine but as time went on and 1961 saw the introduction of the 251 engine, that engine may have been used in M601/M615 trucks from then on. I'm no expert on these trucks.
