Stay with the DOT 5.
Fix the problem. Original steel and brass fittings after 40+ years become pitted and porous.If there is a weeping problem take it apart and make sure there is not a corrosion or fit problem.
If the wheel cylinders are weeping take them apart. If the cylinders are pitted they can be lined with stainless steel. If the honing markers is all there is try polishing the cylinders to a bright smooth finish. Eastwood may have a polishing tip for a drill or dremel tool that will do the job. Try and find a cylinder kit that has the ends on the spring - the ends are there to help press the seal lip against the cylinder wall.
