jim, I was told by John Eickhof a while back that the Braden Winches (at least the MU-2's possibly others) are designed so that you can swap the RH & LH end casing assemblies to the opposite sides of the spool. This would swap the winch input shaft to the opposite side. Doing this would enable you to take a front mounted winch w/ drivers side PTO, and use it for a rear-mounted winch also using a drivers side PTO. Like you, I want to fabricate a below-bed-level rear winch. My '53 B4 already has a drivers side rear PTO with the PTO drive shaft going all the way to the back. I don't want the winch hanging down underneath the rear cross member, so I'm working on designing a replacement rear cross member which will serve as the winch mount. From what I know, the MU-3 would be the best winch for this application, but I might try to do it with an LU-4 which is all that I have right now. My PW has ONLY the rear PTO. I've seen several having BOTH forward and rearward PTO driveshafts both coming out of the drivers side PTO. Another option for a rear winch is to mount it in the bed more like a tow truck. I've seen this done where the rear PTO driveshaft turns a gear and chain which then turns the winch input through a hole in the bed floor. I'm not willing to give up the bed space for this settup. From what I understand, complete rear PTO drive shaft assemblies are a bit hard to come by, but I know that Doug Higgins (Northwoods Equipment, LLC in Monument, CO) has most of the pieces if not whole assemblies. Good Luck, Bruce
