The heater inlet hose should connect to the fitting at the back of the engine on the head between #5 and #6. The outlet hose from the heater connects to the water pump input side. To avoid getting a new water pump - add a lower radiator hose heater. Weld a fitting to the heater to connect the heater outlet hose to and attach the outlet hose there.
