Check your ignition system by removing the coil wire from the dist. cap and holding it 1/4 to 3/8 from the engine head. Have someone turn on the ignition switch and crank the engine. If spark will jump the gap, the ignition system is ok. If it doesn't jump, replace the points.

Most likely it is loss of fuel out of the carb. from evaporation especially when gas is mixed with ethanol. A check valve may help installed between the pump and carb., then again once the fuel has evaporated from the carb, it won't help. The best solution is to install an electric pump in the system and use a primer switch to prime the carb. allowing the mechanical to take over once the engine starts. Mine can sit for months, prime it, and it starts right up.
