I rate consumption 2 ways
on pavement I go by MPG and offroad gallons per hour.
flathead powered PW/WC/M37 are quite efficient offroad. about 1.5-2.5 gallons an hour on trails or using as a log skidder or farm tool obviously more in extreme load situations.
in my 5.83 geared 230 trucks I get 10 or so MPG wound out at 55 mph and 17 running on back roads at 40 to 45. with fenders shaped like parachutes the highway top speed mileage will always be less
