To say this in a better way:
The factory (hardened) keys have rounded ends to match the cuts in the shaft. If your keys have square ends they were made from general key stock and are most likely not hardened. Even if the key has rounded ends, some OCD prior owner (like myself) may have made them, in which case they are probably not hardened. If you can cut the edge of the key with a file it is not hardened. Drill it and tap it and pull that sucker out.
