As Marty and Daryl said, it your going with new shoes it helps to have them ground to fit the drum.
But, at least in my neck of the woods you won't be able to find a repair shop that still does this very easily.
Instead, look on the internet for a "friction materials" place.
Kaegi advised me on this and bingo, I found a place within driving distance.
