6v starter on 12v engine

I recently converted my 48FF to 12v w help from the forum. Before re-installing the 6v starter I brought it to an auto-electric shop to check it out. The tech verified that it will work fine except that the 12v to the starter will cause it to hit the flywheel w greater force and that if I were to use it regularly it might cause undue wear to flywheel or pinion gear or both. Has anyone experienced that or is the tech just trying to sell me a hybrid starter that they are producing?
