When I built my truck with the hydraulic winch set-up, I made a control lever at the winch as well as in the cab to control in and out. With my 4 wheel mico-lock braking system , I lock all 4 wheels, then winch right from the front of the truck, the truck never moves. Never have to worry about snapping anything, the hyraulic winch motor will stop pulling if the tenion gets too high, hey it works great, I've winched whole 24" downed oak trees out of my swamp. Dragged them right out.
