Agree with you, Clint. I worked on a commercial fishing trawler that released and retrieved the trawl nets by way of cable lines fed through the outriggers to a central winch drum (through several strategically placed snatch blocks). The captain, an old salt, put the fear of death in me and said NO gloves while handling the working cable. He said once a cable bur snagged the glove there would not be time to shut down the winch.
