Stock m-37 winch looks and usually works good, but I hate the hidden dogs and the linkage inside the housing that can freeze up (the aluminum and steel bonds, if I remember right).
I had a 68 m37 with a PW winch that was an ugly installation but it worked great.
One thing, a local guy lost his whole arm up to the shoulder to a dodge with a pto winch - just snagged his glove on a cable burr. An electric winch might get some fingers, but you’d have to try to do it.
Boyce Equipment sells an 18k lb 24v MM winch for $1250. But i don’t know anything about that size. I use a MM 12v winch on the car trailer - ended up converting to warn solenoids after a lot of hassle with the expensive junk originals. Long time ago so probably they have a better setup now. But I’ll never buy anything else from them - I got kind of grumpy about it.
