When I was building boats (large ones) we used a battery charging equalizer in the charging system to properly maintain the two large 8D batteries in the 24 volt system to keep from overcharging the battery that was not included in the 12 volt tap of the 12/24 volt distribution system. Worked great and solved charging problems.
