If it is hardened grease in the joint, I've used one of the tools Tom mentioned with Good results. I just filled it full of WD40 clipped it on the grease zerk, gave a tap on the plunger with a hammer, moved the joint around a bit, and gave some more taps. The old grease dissolved and ran right out.
