Gramma’s house was pretty quiet that year. Dad in the Army Air Corps, Bruno in the Marines, Billy Crowe in the Merchant Marines. Even Mary Crowe in the WAC. And Franny was in the Navy. He crewed aboard a transport ship USS Fayette (APA-43) that sailed in to harms way at 11 Pacific landings, including all 4 that Bruno attended. (But I never heard about them being on the same boat) Meantime, an aunt to them all was a slave laborer in a Nazi factory in Czechoslavakia. With an Auschwitz number tattooed on her arm.

Bruno, Navy Cross and two purple hearts. Dad, a Soldiers medal for running into a burning bomb dump to rescue mates after an unexploded 500# bomb hit his bomb truck.

Is "Happy" Veterans day the right term? Perhaps "Commiserate"?
