I had the problem Paul mentioned when I put single wheels on my 1968 W300 that came with dual rear wheels. The sidewall face of the front tires was, as I remember, 2 1/2" (+/-) farther out than the sidewall face of the rears on each side. I had a machine shop make up some very heavy "spacers" or "adapters" to bring the rear wheels out to where they tracked with the front. I didn't do as good of a job documenting my work as Paul did, so I can't post a picture without removing one of the rear wheels. And I don't have time to do that because I still have 200 garlic cloves to put in the ground and around 400,000,000,000 leaves to clean up, as soon as I can do more than hobble around. Getting old sucks, but at least it means you are still alive. :)
