Also running the lights off relays help enormously with incandescent headlight bulbs. The voltage drop caused by the resistance in the wiring, light switch, and dimmer switch take their toll.
4 pin relay wiring is simplicity itself: ground; power from battery or alternator output stud; headlight switch wire in; wires out headlight. One needed for low, and another for the high beam circuit.
The headlight switch and dimmer still work the same and the wiring iunder the dash is uncut. These wires just trigger the relay to turn on.
