Is it possible to remove the engine without the bell housing? Yes, but you will still need to remove the transmission, clutch, flywheel, and somehow gain access to the bolts that hold the bell to the engine. My cab has some holes torched into the tunnel, that most likely came with a later surprise.
There are actually less bolts to remove if the engine and bell are left as an assembly.
