Glad to hear you got it fixed! Even though you may think the spalling didn't look all that bad, it actually was pretty bad. I can easily see that this would have caused your noise. I had a wheel bearing that had less spalling than that, and I could hear hear the rumble or groaning sound coming from that area of the truck when driving (this was on my 1990 F150).
