The dowel pin fix is easy, I just did one on my 1st gen 5.9. It's more trouble to pull the front cover than the $15 pin fix kit which is just one bolt and a machined part that holds the dowel pin from coming out. I've come to love thoe first gen cummins motors, so simpkle and heavy duty.
