Greetings,

I had my steering column apart over the weekend and ran into a problem putting it back together.

After several hours scratching my head and researching workshop manual and parts manuals, I realized that I was missing a part called support 19-46-55. This screwed up the spacing for the entire assembly from the steering wheel down to the top of the steering column jacket.

After much trial and error, I removed the bearing house retaining bolts and square nuts from the underside of the bearing housing and managed to reassemble it well enough to have it work for the time being.

The workshop manual instructions for steering column disassembly state:

"(6) Loosen the two bearing housing retaining screws five complete turns each (Fig. 4).

I can't for the life of me see what the purpose of those two bolts are.

Two questions... does anyone know what the purpose of the retaining house bolts and square semi-captured nuts are?

Second, anyone know where I can find the steering asm. part support 19-46-55?

FYI, I have attached a link to a public folder with three documents for those interested.

Thanks,
Mark
