any tricks for adjusting the driveline brake?

Just curious what the procedure is - my present method is to tighten it until it works with the brake lever but it does not hold s well as I like. Seems to rub on the drum if I adjust it a bit more.
Going on a trip, so I am going through the truck. Sure is a lot of things to check. Now have two fans on the rad, one pulling, one pushing. Just might help on those long hills.
