I built an eight foot flatbed on my Dakota pickup a few years ago. I bought it wrecked for stupid cheap and drove it 200K after I fixed it. Built the bed with treated 2x4's lagged to 6x6 cross members. Made it real easy to replace a board if needed. Always had a place to bolt the miter saw, or whatever dlse I was using.
The truck is long gone now, but that flatbed is still in my garage as a table. In fact, the motor and trans from that Dakota are sitting on it right now..
