Believe it or not, sometime back (I think maybe in the 80s or 90s), the govt. came up with a program that required caulking every imaginable place on a house, during the framing, window and door installation, siding, etc. They were going for making the house air-tight. Well, they did, but then people started getting sick because of the stale old air. So they required ventilation fans that would cycle every so often just to remove and replace the air in the house. Of course this wasn't a problem or a need until they made the house air tight. :)
