I had this problem on my '66 Ford. I put a Dana 70 rear axle out of a Dodge motor home and a Dana 60 closed knuckle front axle from a later model Ford in it.
The hubs on the front were Dana/Spicer. The studs had loosened and the previous owner never noticed. When I got it I installed a set of Warn hubs and had to drill out the holes to a slightly larger diameter bolt. I have plowed snow for 10 or 12 years with it and never had any more problems.
