This is how your axles are made:

shaft material----------4140
shaft hardness-------------32 rockwell c
spline hardness ----- 45 rockwell c

There are plenty of axle makers that can build a set fairly inexpensive and stronger than stock axle. Dana 60 or Spicer has the open carrier which overtime stresses the area where the pinnion shaft goes through and can cause it to fail in addition to axles breaking. PW doesn't have that issue.

I've squalled all four tires on payment pulling tree stumps and have yet to break an axle. I thick a lot of breakage comes from trucks poorly maintained that resulted in stressed axles overtime, eventually breaking them. Yes, you can break an axle by reeving the engine and popping the clutch or slipping a tire until it grabs or just driving down the road.
