My 251 sounds its worst at 2400-2600 rpm (40-45 with 5.83 gears). There must be some harmonic going on that makes it sound bad. When I push it to 2700-2900 rpm it smooths out considerably. I rarely push it past 2600 rpm, though Vaughn's work above has me rethinking that now.
