Two things:

- You want to use a detergent motor oil to clean deposits of carbon, gum, and dirt so you can maintain good lubrication of the engine via oil passages.

- Water-Sludge formation is caused by water from the combustion of gas, and air as it enters the ventilation system. The pumps oil screen does not set in sludge, it is above and every time you change oil some sludge is removed to maintain a certain level - just below the drain plug. Anyone concerned about sludge can drive their truck on ramps to angle the engine when draining oil. This will remove more sludge, but not all of it. Sludge is useful to trap larger oil particles preventing them from circulating to engine parts.

A good multi-V detergent oil is good, 10-40 or 20-50 is a good choice.

I've used Lucas in my tranny and diff and no longer do. It gets squeezed out around machined surfaces and deposits on the axles eliminating any useful use, STP is a better choice.
