Sounds right. I quit taking stuff to the shop when I lived in KC, was close enough with a tape measure and angle finder. It's all too old, or too new, or has the wrong wheels, or is too modified.
I have a local guy who checks my alignments on the "good" vehicles for free and I have taken everything I own to him except for the WC. I have offered to pay him, but he will not charge me unless he actually has to make an adjustment. I generally get preferential treatment when I go in and he has unabashedly explained why I get that to another customer who complained right in front of me. Apparently being courteous, understanding and offering to pay for a service they offer for free goes a long way...I have had some problems with their work in the past, but we have always been able to resolve the issues with a conversation and a bit of patience on my side of things.
