on the ID they used to make over size pins. I believe the over size OD would be for rods that are damaged from spun bushings. now days everyone just replaces all 6 pistons and doesn't mess around with oversize pins. Auto parts were generally way more expensive than they are now. I don't think the price of a valve or a piston has gone up in 40 years. which means they cost alot more way back.
they would re use pistons frequently. You can knurl them to get them back to spec. So boring for over size pins was a needed option.
with new pistons and pins the shop will press in new stock bushings (assuming rods are good) and hone them to spec and hang pistons on rods for you for not much money. they will check for rod twist as well.
