Just because it is an electronically triggered system does not mean it is High Energy Ignition. Too much gap may over load some other component. I'd stay close to normal, .045 would be my limit. Remember hoiw in 1975 the GM HEI system had a huge big distributor, harder to cross fire.
A longer spark was used to ensure ignition of the leanest possible mix- more spark was more likely to hit a gas molecule. AMC Pacers were the widest gap, umm, .090?
