Well that is part of running a business. It is fantastic that he stayed with you for so long. That speaks well of you and how you treated him. I hope you gave he a great send off into his retirement and wished the the best.
The problem with keeping people so long is that you probably haven’t had to had to hire a lot of people in the past which makes it more difficult for you now. As previous stated check with the trade schools for trained people. In fact you need to develop a good relationship with a trade school. Work with them and they will work with you.
Don’t wish for more family to fill in the voids. For some reason the young ones seem to like to do something they like to do rather than the family business. That’s just fine that they are doing what they want and like to do. None of my kids are doing exactly what I did. Each one is successful and happy which is all a parent can hope for.
