I gotta agree with Bill here and for what its worth:

I've owned two Power Wagons, my first was a 1953 B4 with a good running original 230. My current truck is a 1966 WM300 with a 251.

I liked the 230 in off road conditions, seemed like a good lugging, head snapping motor that could negotiate a mud hole with relative ease.

But alas, I drive my Power Wagon around town more often and I like the 251 a little more for that, but still can do what the 230 could do.

But I would NEVER consider driving either of these trucks with either a 230 or 251 flat head on I94 or I96 or I275 in downtown Detroit when everybody else is doing 70-75+ mph! Both trucks with both engines slow slightly going up a moderate hill. The 251 engine a little less than the 230 equipped truck, but both do it.

These trucks were never built for interstate highway driving, there were no interstate highways when they were designed!

They were built for off road and rural highway driving and could still pull a two or three bottom plow in a field with relative ease. They are job rated for that.

Sure, you can put another engine into your truck, but then you'll find the faster you go in it, it doesn't have the stability as a newer truck with newer axles and newer suspension system in it and the stopping power with disk brakes.

I don't think a 251 will help any.

Andy
