Yeah, a brass fitting instead of steel might work without thread sealant.
My fitting was steel, NPT to a female 45 flare fitting. It was the fitting that came with the master cylinder I bought.
I don't think they thread the master cylinders correctly at the factory anymore. Seems a lot of people on here are having this problem when changing a master cylinder lately.
