My understanding is that jerry cans and oil barrels are all threaded for 2" iron pipe threads, so you actually have lots of options. Getting it to vent and not leak, though, is a separate issue. A proper jerry can has a little vent hole above the spout, which is sealed over by the gasket when you put the cap on.
